Peter Cat Recording Co. Reveals Upcoming Album ‘Beta’ and Worldwide Tour Dates

Peter Cat Recording Co.’s New Album ‘Beta’ Promises a Blend of Genres and a Sense of Grime

In a recent announcement, Peter Cat Recording Co. has unveiled the release of their latest album, “Beta,” set to drop on August 9 through Muddy Water. The band also revealed that the first single from the album will be available on May 16 and they will kick off a headlining tour in August.

Before their headlining dates, Peter Cat will join Khruangbin on tour before embarking on their own U.S., U.K., and Europe tour, followed by dates in India. Tickets for their headlining shows will go on sale on May 16 at 10 a.m. local time.

To give fans a sneak peek into what’s to come, Peter Cat shared a teaser of the album on Instagram featuring a video of elephants enjoying an edible arrangement with the album title spelled out in watermelon slices. According to Peter Cat, “Beta” is a collection of stories about the future told as if it were 50 years in the past, to make sense of the present world we live in. This upcoming album is their first release since 2019’s “Bismillah.”

The band chose the title “Beta” from a list of five potential album names, with drummer Karan Singh’s six-month-old son randomly selecting it. The word “Beta” means “child” in Hindi. Produced by Suryakant Sawhney, Kartik Pillai, and Dhruv Bhola, “Beta” promises to be a blend of indie, bossa nova, jazz, psychedelic and more genres. Peter Cat Recording Co.’s music captures a sense of grime and honesty that draws from older generations of crooner singers.

Sawhney shared in an interview with Variety in April 2023 that the style of singing in crooner music is emotionally powerful and has a masculine appeal
