Peachtree Parkway: A Hub for Cutting-Edge Technology and Road Safety
Peachtree Corners, Georgia, is home to over 62,000 cars that travel on Peachtree Parkway daily. But it’s not just cars that use this busy roadway. About 600 bicyclists cross it every Saturday, highlighting the importance of road safety for all users.
Assistant City Manager Brandon Branham emphasized the city’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and bicyclists, especially at intersections where they may encounter vehicles. Peachtree Corners is known for testing cutting-edge technology at its Curiosity Lab, including equipment that can alert both cyclists and drivers about potential collisions in advance.
One of the technologies being tested is the Spoke Companion App, which allows cyclists and drivers to be alerted to each other’s presence on the road. This proactive approach aims to prevent accidents and save lives. The city plans to put this technology to the test during a pro cycling race event this weekend, focusing on improving safety for all road users.
While acknowledging that this technology is still evolving, the city is exploring additional ways to alert drivers and cyclists to potential dangers, including digital signage. The ultimate goal is to reduce fatalities and create a safer environment for everyone on the road.
