Palestine Commissioner Denied Entry to Gaza for Second Time, Calls for Independent Investigation into Attack on UNRWA Staff”.

Felippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner General of the UN Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees, expressed frustration as Israeli authorities denied him entry into the Gaza Strip for the second time in a week. He had visited the sector four times during the recent hostilities and had planned to meet with UNRWA employees who are on the front line. Lazzarini highlighted the challenges faced by his employees, including incidents of shooting at cars, intimidation, and other obstacles preventing humanitarian aid convoys from entering the sector.

Despite these challenges, Lazzarini remains committed to providing assistance to Palestinian refugees and ensuring the safety and well-being of UNRWA staff operating in the region. In addition to addressing the difficulties faced by UNRWA employees, he also called for an independent investigation into a mortar attack at the Kerem Shalom checkpoint that resulted in the death of four Israeli soldiers. The terrorist group Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.

The issue of access to Gaza and the safety of humanitarian workers remains a pressing concern, as evidenced by recent incidents and ongoing tensions in the region. Lazzarini’s efforts to raise awareness and advocate for the rights and protection of UNRWA staff are essential in ensuring continuity of aid and support for Palestine refugees in Gaza and beyond. It is crucial that all parties involved prioritize safety and security of humanitarian workers while upholding international humanitarian law in conflict-affected areas like Gaza.
