Nintendo Announces New Game Console Release for This Fiscal Year, Adding Excitement to Nine Years of Successor Rumors
Nintendo has officially confirmed that they will be unveiling their new game console, the successor to the Nintendo Switch, sometime during this fiscal year. This news is in addition to a new Nintendo Direct event set for June, where they will discuss the games coming to the current hardware in the second half of the year.
The original Nintendo Switch was announced in 2015 and released two years later, with subsequent updates including models with longer battery life and an OLED screen. The introduction of the portable-only Switch Lite also added variety to the lineup.
President of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, shared that the new console set to succeed the Nintendo Switch will be revealed before the end of this fiscal year, which extends until March 2025. He emphasized that this news marks over nine years since the original Switch was announced. In contrast to this exciting news, Furukawa confirmed that a Nintendo Direct event scheduled for June will focus on software lineup for current hardware and not cover any information related to successor console.
