Nigerian Teen Mother Makes History with Record-Breaking Nail Painting Marathon: From Adolescent Motherhood to Changing the Narrative on Plateau State
Lisha Dackor, a 19-year-old Nigerian woman, recently made an attempt to break the world record for painting the most nails in a 72-hour period. With her determination and skill as a nail technician, she painted over 4,000 nails at an events center in Plateau state, northern Nigeria.
During her three-day marathon that ended on Wednesday, Dackor adorned hundreds of fingernails with blue, pink, and purple varnish. According to Guinness World Record (GWR) rules, she needed to paint 60 fingernails per hour for her attempt to count. She has now submitted her evidence to GWR and is waiting for their review.
Lisha took on this challenge to change the narrative surrounding teen mothers like herself. She hopes to inspire and give hope to single mothers who may feel underestimated. Through her record-breaking attempt, she aims to shine a spotlight on women from northern Nigeria and put Plateau, her home state, on the map. Plateau is located at the intersection of Nigeria’s mainly Muslim north and largely Christian south. The region has faced insecurity and conflict between different ethnic and religious groups, resulting in many deaths over the years.
Despite these challenges, Lisha received support from all ethnic groups while attempting to break the world record. She believes that Plateau is a beautiful place beyond its ethnic issues and hopes her achievement will help change people’s perceptions of the state. For Lisha Dackor
