The Sherburne-Earlville athletic teams have officially changed their nickname from Marauders to Timberwolves. This decision was made by the school board and is effective immediately, in accordance with a directive from the New York State Department of Education to end the use of nicknames, mascots, and logos that depict Native American culture.
The Timberwolves was chosen after a student vote, where it received the most support compared to the other options of Wolves and Wolf Pack. Among high school students, Timberwolves received 48% of the vote, while middle school students voted in favor of Timberwolves with 52%. The official wolf-related logos and fonts adopted by the district in the previous school year will remain the same, as well as the school’s “Maroon and White” colors.
