Arkansas scores big in transfer portal as Tennessee’s Jonas Aidoo joins Razorbacks

New Hire John Calipari Brings Big-Name Transfer Jonas Aidoo to Arkansas, Signaling a New Era of NIL-Fueled Basketball Success

John Calipari’s decision to add Tennessee transfer Jonas Aidoo to Arkansas has the potential to significantly impact the Razorbacks. Aidoo, who was ranked 25th on David Cobb’s list of 2024 transfers, committed to Arkansas on Monday. He averaged 11.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game for the Volunteers, who were a No. 2 seed and made it all the way to the Elite Eight last season under Rick Barnes.

Arkansas provides Aidoo with an opportunity to solidify his reputation as a premier player in the SEC and nationally. This is Calipari’s first major portal pickup since taking over at Arkansas three weeks ago. With the transfer portal closing for college basketball players on Wednesday night, players will have additional time to decide on their next steps. However, it is expected that more notable names from the portal will be added to Arkansas’ roster in the near future.

Calipari and his staff are particularly attracted to Arkansas due to its deep NIL resources and history of recruiting NBA-level talent. Despite Eric Musselman’s departure for USC, this program remains an attractive destination for top-tier college basketball players seeking a challenging and rewarding experience in collegiate athletics.
