Navigating the Clean Energy Economy: Guiding Principles for Government and Firm Strategies in Manufacturing

Governments and firms worldwide are eager to carve out their roles in the rapidly expanding clean energy economy. As policymakers devise new industrial strategies to enhance energy security and combat climate change, there is a growing sense of urgency to embrace clean technology manufacturing. The Energy Technology Perspectives Special Report is designed to assist decision-makers in developing and evaluating their strategies for this sector.

The report recognizes that a one-size-fits-all approach is not feasible and outlines guiding principles to inform future planning in clean technology manufacturing. It was prepared in response to a request from G7 Leaders in 2023 and draws on insights gathered during a High-level Dialogue on Diversifying Clean Technology Manufacturing held at the IEA headquarters in Paris in November of the same year. Additionally, the report leverages analysis conducted as part of the latest edition of the IEA’s flagship technology publication, Energy Technology Perspectives, as well as two Special Briefings on clean technology manufacturing throughout 2023.

Clean technology manufacturing has become an increasingly important area of focus for governments and firms around the world as they seek to reduce their carbon footprint and promote sustainable economic growth. The Energy Technology Perspectives Special Report provides decision-makers with valuable guidance on how to develop and implement effective strategies for this sector, taking into account the unique challenges and opportunities presented by different regions and industries.
