National Agricultural Aviation Association Highlights Future of Food and Farming at ‘Ag on the Mall’ Event; ‘Trust the Science Act’ Passes in House, Directs Interior Department to Remove Endangered Species Act Protections for Gray Wolves; U.S. Government Collects Ground Beef Samples to Control Bird Flu Outbreak in Dairy Cattle
The National Agricultural Aviation Association (NAAA) is currently participating in Ag on the Mall in Washington, D.C., themed the Future of Food and Farming. The NAAA will showcase a Bell Jet Ranger Helicopter equipped with a liquid spray system for applying crop protection materials at the event. Meanwhile, the “Trust the Science Act” has passed in the House and directs the Department of the Interior to remove Endangered Species Act protections for the gray wolf. U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse released a statement regarding the bill, stating that while the gray wolf population has recovered by all metrics, it continues to be used against private landowners by an administration that should trust science rather than politics. The bill will now move to the Senate for consideration.
In response to outbreaks of bird flu in dairy cattle, the U.S. government is collecting ground beef samples from retail stores in affected states. While both the Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization have stated that there is low overall public health risk, it is higher for those who have been exposed to infected animals. Despite this, the government remains confident in the safety of meat supply and continues its efforts to control spread of disease through strict sampling and testing protocols.
