Charles H. Wright Museum Utilizes Technology to Enhance Exhibits and Expands Theater Space

Museum of African American History: Celebrating 55 Years and Expanding its Legacy – A Look at the New ‘Honoring the Life and Legacy of Judge Damon J. Keith’ Exhibit and Upgraded Theater

Since 1966, The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History has been an educational resource for Detroiters and visitors alike, with a focus on the rich history of African Americans. Over the years, the museum has undergone expansions, introduced new exhibits, upgraded its technology and expanded its performance theater.

One of the latest additions to the museum is a permanent exhibit called “Honoring the Life and Legacy of Judge Damon J. Keith.” This innovative exhibit takes viewers on a journey through Judge Keith’s life, from his childhood to his time as a federal district judge. The use of cutting-edge technology allows for easy updates whenever new information about Judge Keith becomes available.

In addition to enhancing its exhibits, The Wright has revamped its theater to focus on performances including music, poetry and film. The General Motors Theater is now open for use and rentals and has been updated with state-of-the-art theatrical equipment, surround sound systems and comfortable seating.

Recently, Detroit contributor Sarah Zientarski had a conversation with Charles H. Wright Museum President and CEO Neil Barclay about the museum’s continued expansion of programming and operations.
