MIT Health Losses Vibrant Leader: Chasity Nunez, 27

MIT Health has lost one of its brightest stars, with the passing of Chasity Nunez on March 5 at the age of 27. Known as “Chas” to those who knew her, Nunez was a dedicated learner and played a vital role in maintaining high safety standards at MIT Health as the patient safety and clinical quality program coordinator.

Nunez’s hiring manager, Elene Scheff, Director of Clinical Collaborations and Partnerships, remembers her as someone who was deeply committed to her work and always eager to learn more. She pursued her second master’s degree in informatics while holding her position at MIT Health, where she enjoyed collaborating with colleagues and being challenged.

MIT Chief Health Officer Cecilia Stuopis recalls Nunez as someone who was passionate about the health and well-being of the MIT community. She was devoted to her job and left a lasting impact on both her colleagues and patients.

In addition to working at MIT Health, Nunez also served in the U.S. Army National Guard as an IT support specialist in Connecticut. Her love for learning and personal growth never stopped there, as she was always looking for ways to improve herself professionally.

Michele David, chief of clinical quality and patient safety, reflects on Nunez’s can-do attitude and willingness to take on new challenges. Her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her at MIT Health long after she is gone.

To honor Nunez’s memory, MIT Health organized a GoFundMe campaign that exceeded its goal thanks to the generosity of the MIT community. All proceeds from the campaign went directly to Nunez’s family to support her daughter’s future educational needs.

Nunez will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will live on through the hearts of those whose lives she touched during her time at MIT Health.
