Caterina Fake and Stewart Butterfield, the parents of Mint Butterfield, were overjoyed to learn that their missing child had been found safe after a week of uncertainty. The teen from Bolinas, who uses they/them pronouns, had initially gone missing and was considered at risk by authorities.
Butterfield’s stepfather, Jyri Engestrom, is also a tech founder, and the family expressed gratitude to all those who helped in the search for their child. This included family members, friends, volunteers, and strangers who provided tips.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, Butterfield left a note and took a suitcase with them when they disappeared. However, they did not have a car or phone. Despite this information, police initially stated that the teenager was a voluntary missing juvenile at risk due to a previous suicide attempt.
The safe recovery of Butterfield brought relief to their loved ones and the community following a challenging period of uncertainty. The family is grateful for everyone’s efforts in helping locate their child and ensuring their safety.
