Measles Warning in Rock County: How to Protect Yourself and Keep Your Community Safe
In recent days, Rock County Public Health (RCPH) has issued a warning to the community about possible exposure to measles. This is due to an individual from Dane County who visited Rock County while infectious with the virus. RCPH is working in collaboration with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Public Health Madison & County, and SSM Health to identify and notify individuals who may have been exposed.
If you were present at certain locations in Milton and Janesville during specific dates and times, you may have been exposed to measles. Those who visited Kwik Trip in Milton, SSM Health Dean Medical Group, or SSM Health Mary’s Hospital in Janesville during these times should check their vaccination status immediately. If you are unvaccinated or believe you may have been exposed, it is important to stay home and contact RCPH or your local health department for guidance.
SSM Health is also taking steps to reach out to patients who may have been exposed through MyChart or phone. The measles virus is highly contagious and can be spread through coughing and sneezing. According to the CDC, infected individuals can transmit measles to others four days before and after the appearance of the rash.
Individuals who may have been exposed should take precautions and seek guidance from health authorities as soon as possible. It is important to remember that prevention is key when it comes to protecting ourselves from infectious diseases like measles.
