Report from ‘Future Energy’ urges adoption of electric mobility and smart city solutions

Masdar’s World Future Energy Summit: Fostering Sustainable Urban Planning and Electric Mobility through Global Collaboration

The sixteenth session of the World Future Energy Summit, hosted by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), concluded on Thursday at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center. This annual forum brings together experts in sustainability, energy, transportation, and urban planning to discuss future plans and solutions in the fields of electric mobility and smart cities.

The final day of the summit focused on electric mobility and smart cities, with extended working hours due to favorable weather conditions. Sessions at the Electric Mobility Forum discussed preparations for the adoption of autonomous transportation, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between stakeholders in the green transportation sector. The UAE’s efforts to increase the sales of new energy vehicles to 50% by 2030 were highlighted.

Speakers, such as Naveen Ahmed from Pakistan and Chris Wan from Masdar City, shared insights on prioritizing electric vehicles to mitigate pollution and the importance of sustainable urban planning. The summit also announced a new project in clean energy and climate action in cooperation between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The event featured areas dedicated to supporting innovation and startup companies, including the Climate Innovation Exchange Forum (Clix) initiative, which supports women-led startup companies and showcases their products and solutions. Susan Payne from Sustainable Plant expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the summit.

In addition to these activities, Lynn Al-Sibai, General Manager of RX Middle East and Chair of the World Future Energy Summit, highlighted increased international participation compared to previous years. The Masdar Innovation Zone was particularly popular among attendees due to its focus on sustainability-focused products and solutions that support renewable energy sources. Overall, this year’s World Future Energy Summit was a success as it brought together experts from around the world to discuss innovative solutions for a more sustainable future.
