Mars Rover Sol 24: Advancing with Obstacle Detection, Scientific Discoveries and Delays

On Sol 24, the rover will undergo a new software test that will allow it to automatically detect and avoid obstacles, making for smoother progress towards our goal of Glenelg. If this test is successful, we can expect quicker advancement and more efficient scientific observations as we explore the unique terrain types in Glenelg.

The science team has prioritized data collection from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, but issues with data volume have caused minor delays. Despite these challenges, the team remains focused on their mission to study the geology of Mars and make valuable discoveries through scientific observations.

With confirmation of completion of Mastcam characterization data, the science team can now plan new observations and incorporate them into the schedule. The team hopes to receive additional data via the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter to aid in planning future drives and scientific observations. Overall, Sol 24 marks a step forward in achieving our mission goals despite potential challenges.
