Making Little Bohemia Safer: New Business and Industrial Growth Brings Concerns for Accessibility and Traffic Management
As growth continues to flourish in Omaha’s Little Bohemia neighborhood, the addition of new businesses and apartments has brought about concerns for safety and accessibility. With an increase in traffic, it is becoming increasingly difficult to navigate the area. Sheet Metal Works business owner Dave Hempel, located along 13th Street, has noticed a rise in trucks coming to the area daily, which poses challenges with unloading.
In response to these concerns, the new Business Improvement District (BID) board is working towards addressing safety and accessibility issues in the neighborhood. The focus will be on improving lighting, creating better parking options, and creating additional spaces for parking outside of the main corridor. Streetscapes will also be enhanced to help control traffic flow and create a safer environment for everyone in the area.
Chicago Lumber owner Rick Hullinger recognizes the importance of these enhancements as they continue to expand into new territory. Although not on the board himself, he understands that making improvements will ensure that industrial businesses can continue to operate effectively while maintaining safety standards.
At an upcoming meeting of city councilmembers, the BID will be reviewed and potentially approved. This progress signals a step towards making Little Bohemia a safer and more vibrant community for all residents and businesses alike.
