This French Château Could Soon Become the Most Expensive House in the World

Luxurious 19th Century Estate: From Rothschild Family to the King of Morocco and Now Back on the Market for Whisper Auctions

In the early 20th century, an estate had grown to a sprawling 3,961-hectare property. The mansion spans across three floors and includes 100 rooms, three elevators, 17 themed bedroom suites, and five salons. Amenities in the compound include stables for 50 horses, a beauty parlor, hammam, and housing for staff members.

After Edmond’s death, the home was passed down to various members of the Rothschild family before being sold to the King of Morocco in the 1980s. Since then, it has been sitting vacant and unused until it was purchased by an owner from the Middle East in 2008.

As per Ignace Meuwissen of Whisper Auctions who is handling the sale, “The property will likely change hands behind closed doors.” There are already interested buyers from East Europe, Asia, and even Mongolia who are eager to purchase this luxurious estate. Meuwissen also stated that most properties they sell are on a whispering basis and that these sales happen mostly under confidentiality.
