Legendary Coach Cesar Luis Menotti Leaves Behind a Lasting Legacy in the World of Football

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) announced on Sunday that Cesar Luis Menotti, the coach who led Argentina to victory in the 1978 World Cup, had passed away at the age of 85. Menotti had a successful playing career with clubs such as Rosario Central, Boca Juniors, and Santos before moving to coaching.

After winning the Argentine championship with Huracan in 1973, Menotti took over as the head coach of the national team in 1974. Under his leadership, Argentina went on to win the World Cup in 1978, marking a historic moment for the country.

Following his success with the national team, Menotti coached various clubs including Barcelona where he won the Copa Del Rey in 1983. He also coached Atletico Madrid, Boca Juniors, Independiente, River Plate, Penarol, Rosario Central, Sampdoria and Mexican sides Puebla and Tecos.

The AFA expressed its sadness at the passing of Menotti and acknowledged his contributions to Argentine football as both a player and a coach. His legacy will be remembered fondly by fans and players alike. Farewell Flaco querido.
