L.A. Pro-Palestinian Demonstration Turns Violent at UCLA, Dozens Counter-Protesters Attempt to Knock Down Barrier
In Los Angeles, a pro-Palestinian demonstration took place at UCLA University, resulting in violent clashes. Firecrackers and tear gas were among the items thrown during the confrontations. Dozens of counter-protesters tried to knock down the safety rail and plywood barrier surrounding the pro-Palestinian encampment.
The UCLA student newspaper reported that supporters of Israel were forcibly removing pro-Palestinian tents and engaging in confrontations. Meanwhile, at Brown University, students agreed to vacate their protest camp in exchange for a vote on the diversion of investments from companies associated with Israel. The university president expressed appreciation for the students’ efforts to prevent further escalation of the situation.
In response to the ongoing clashes, the mayor of Los Angeles addressed the situation, stating that police were immediately responding to intervene at UCLA University. Despite these efforts, it remains unclear when or if peace will be restored on campus.
