Kuwaiti National Assembly Announces Opening Session for April 21 Despite Previous Postponement

The Kuwaiti National Assembly has announced that the opening session of the Council will take place on Sunday, April 21, despite a previous decree postponing it until May 14. This decision was made in order to adhere to constitutional dates and ensure a smooth legislative term.

Ashour stated that about 37 representatives have confirmed their attendance for the opening session, following the constitutional dates. He also outlined the procedures for assuming the position of President of the Senate until the President of the Council is elected according to the Constitution.

Regarding a session scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, it was postponed due to Decree No. 67 of 2024, rescheduling it to May 14, 2024. However, a new session has been called for Sunday, April 21, in accordance with Article 87 of the Constitution, in order to avoid any constitutional suspicions and uphold the constitutional dates.

Representatives expressed their support for newly appointed Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Sabah and urged him to prioritize citizen concerns. The National Assembly is taking steps to ensure a smooth legislative term and uphold the constitution.
