John Hennessy, a renowned computer scientist and former president of Stanford University, has been chosen as the recipient of the prestigious Vannevar Bush Award by the National Science Board. Currently, Hennessy holds positions as the chairperson of Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company, and the Shriram Family Director of the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program at Stanford University. He will receive the Vannevar Bush Award on May 1, 2024 at the National Science Foundation Awards Gala taking place at the Renwick Gallery in Washington, D.C.
Dario Gil, chair of NSB’s External Engagement Committee and senior vice president and director of IBM research expressed excitement over Hennessy being selected for this award this year. He praised Hennessy’s research for its positive impacts on national economy and security.
