Sports performance/science department at Jets undergoes multiple changes

Jets Head Coach Robert Saleh and General Manager Joe Douglas Announce Changes to Sports Performance and Science Staff for 2024 Season

The Jets have announced that head coach Robert Saleh and General Manager Joe Douglas will be returning for the 2024 season. However, there have been some changes made to the team’s sports performance and sports science staff. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, director of high performance Brad DeWeese is no longer with the organization, along with assistant director of high performance Robert Sausaman and director of sports science Matt Sams who were hired under Saleh in 2021.

In their place, Alexander Carnall has taken over as the sports science coordinator. While there have been no new additions on the performance side of things, Cimini reports that the departures were not performance-based. Instead, Douglas noted that the team’s significant injuries along the offensive line in the last two seasons were a major factor in these changes.

To address this issue, the team acquired veteran tackles Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses in hopes of improving the line’s performance. Keeping these players healthy will be crucial for the team’s success in the upcoming 2024 season.
