JCC Unveils Opportunities for Zoo Technology Students: Register Now for Fall Semester and Summer Prerequisites!

Jefferson Community College (JCC) is pleased to announce that students interested in the Zoo Technology program can now register for the fall semester or complete prerequisites during the summer. Program Director Dr. Mark Irwin and Keirsten Chiodi recently appeared on 7 News at Noon to discuss the program.

The Zoo Technology program at JCC provides hands-on experience working with zookeepers, veterinarians, curators, educators, and administrators. As part of this year’s capstone project, students will provide animal enrichment education and presentations at Zoo New York’s season kickoff on May 4.

Zookeepers require technical expertise and a strong scientific background to provide the best care for animals, educate the public, and participate in cooperative programs regionally, nationally, and internationally. JCC’s Zoo Technology program offers the necessary training and experience for students.

Graduates of the program have found jobs across the country, with some even completing internships in places like Alaska. Starting the Zoo Technology program at JCC in the fall is recommended, with prerequisites in Math and English required. These prerequisites can be completed during the summer session, with special classes starting on May 28 and early full-session courses beginning on June 3.
