Israel’s Leading Causes of Death in 2022: Unveiling Gender Disparities and Highlighting Health Trends

In 2022, cancer and heart disease were the top two causes of death in Israel for both men and women. The report revealed that cancer claimed the lives of 11,650 individuals in the country this year, with specific types of cancer varying between the sexes. Among men, trachea, bronchi, and lung cancer were most prevalent, while breast cancer was the most common among women.

The study also highlighted the impact of the corona epidemic as the third leading cause of death between 2020-2022. Additionally, an increase in mortality rates from infectious diseases was observed over the last decade in Israel, resulting in over 2,000 deaths each year from 2020-2022. On the other hand, there has been a significant decrease in mortality rates from ischemic heart disease and cerebrovascular diseases over the past 40 years.

When comparing gender disparities, it was found that the death rate for all causes was 1.5 times higher among men compared to women in 2022. Overall mortality rates from leading causes like cancer and heart disease were lower than in most OECD countries; however, Israel had higher mortality rates from infectious diseases. Furthermore, differences in cancer mortality rates between men and women were observed in Israel, with men having lower rates compared to most OECD countries.

In conclusion, this report provided insights into leading causes of death trends in Israel and highlighted gender disparities in mortality rates across different age groups and genders. The study emphasized that further research is needed to identify factors contributing to differences in mortality rates between men and women related to infectious diseases.

Israel ranked eighth globally when it comes to mortality due to all causes among OECD countries. While mortality rates from malignant tumors and heart disease were lower than average for many OECD nations, Israeli citizens had higher infection-related deaths due to infectious diseases such as COVID-19.

Overall, this report’s findings provide valuable insights into current health issues affecting both men and women across different age groups and highlight areas where more research is necessary to improve overall health outcomes for Israeli citizens.
