Israel urges evacuation of eastern Rafah as offensive closes in

Israel-Hamas Conflict at a Critical Point as Airstrike Kills 16 in Rafah and Tensions Rise Over Trump’s Intervention

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza has reached a critical point, with the Israeli armed forces requesting the evacuation of the eastern neighborhoods of Rafah in anticipation of a ground offensive. Overnight, 16 people were killed in an airstrike on the city, where hundreds of thousands of refugees from the northern part of the Palestinian enclave are gathered.

The conflict has led to a breakdown in negotiations between the two parties, with accusations of responsibility for the failure of the talks being thrown back and forth. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement of the attack on Rafah has further complicated the situation, leading to Hamas rejecting the latest truce proposals. The US has expressed its dissatisfaction with Israeli government actions, with reports indicating that American arms supplies to Israel have been interrupted for the first time.

Meanwhile, official ceremonies are taking place at Yad Vashem memorial in Jerusalem to commemorate 6 million Holocaust victims on this day. In Italy, Defense Minister Guido Crosetto called for a new approach to fighting Hamas and addressing civilian casualties in Gaza. The situation is dire with reports of famine in northern Gaza spreading southward, prompting calls for urgent humanitarian aid.

In response to the conflict, Israel is targeting Gaza’s center while Hezbollah group continues to fire rockets at an Israeli base in Golan Heights. Despite efforts by Israeli army to evacuate residents from eastern Rafah to designated humanitarian area, casualties continue to mount as 16 people were killed in an airstrike affecting two families in Rafah.

The conflict shows no signs of abating as international efforts to broker a ceasefire face challenges from both sides. The humanitarian situation remains precarious with urgent calls for assistance and relief for those affected by violence.
