Israel Faces International Criminal Court Investigation over Gaza Conflict
The International Criminal Court (CPI) has warned Israel that it may issue arrest warrants against the country’s top officials for alleged war crimes in Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that if this were to happen, it would be a “scandal on a historic scale.” Israel is not a signatory to the Rome Statute and therefore does not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC.
Netanyahu emphasized that the ICC has no authority over the State of Israel and described the possibility of arrest warrants for war crimes as a scandal. The ICC Prosecutor’s Office is reportedly considering issuing arrest warrants against Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and the Chief of the General Staff of the IDF, Herzl Halevi.
