Instagram prioritizes original content from small creators in new recommendation system

Instagram’s Bid to Boost Visibility: Prioritizing Original Content and Dissing Aggregators

Instagram is set to improve its content recommendation system by prioritizing original content, especially from small accounts, in a bid to increase visibility. The company has decided to remove content shared by aggregators, which repost original content without adding value. Instead, the algorithm will focus on showing original content from small creators to boost their reach.

To achieve this, Instagram has introduced tags that identify republished content and link to the original source. This will help users distinguish between original and reposted content and encourage them to engage with the latter.

Furthermore, accounts that repeatedly share memes or repost content without contributing their own ideas will no longer appear in recommendations. Additionally, accounts that post more than ten times in the last 30 days without improvement will also be removed from recommendations. However, accounts licensed to share other creators’ work will be exempt from these limitations.

In addition to these changes, Instagram has also introduced a new classification system for reel recommendations. Instead of solely relying on user engagement, the system will expand distribution to different audiences starting with a small sample. The best performing videos will then be shown to a broader audience, helping increase visibility for small creators even further.

While these changes have been announced, they are expected to be implemented gradually over the coming months. The goal is clear: To enhance Instagram’s support for original content and give more visibility to small creators.

Instagram’s efforts towards promoting original content from small creators is an excellent move towards encouraging creativity and innovation on the platform while providing equal opportunities for everyone.

Overall, these changes are a positive step towards creating a fairer and more diverse platform where all users can showcase their talents and build their communities without being overshadowed by larger brands or aggregators.
