Indian Athletes Secure Olympic Qualification in 4x400m Relay Races Despite Withdrawals
The Indian men’s 4x400m relay team, consisting of Amoj Jacob, Arokia Rajiv, Muhammad Anas Yahiya, and Muhammad Ajmal, seized their second chance and ran an impressive season’s best time of 3:03.23 to secure a spot in the event. Rajesh Ramesh had to withdraw from the race on Saturday, causing a did not finish (DNF) for India.
In the women’s 4x400m relay race, the Indian team of Subha Venkatesan, MR Poovamma, Jyothika Sri Dandi, and Rupal clocked a time of 3:29.35 to finish behind Jamaica in their heat and earn a quota for India. Rupal replaced Vithya Ramraj in this race.
Despite not starting in the second heat of the mixed relay qualifying round, India still has a chance to qualify a team for the event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Two quotas will be distributed based on the top list during the qualification period between December 31, 2022, and June 30, 2024.
