On April 11th, a fatal car crash occurred in front of Cook Hall at Howard University. The driver, Dr. Kamal Agarwal, a professor in the School of Business at Howard University, failed to negotiate a left turn and struck Howard freshman Mohamed Samura. Despite being identified as the faculty member involved in the incident, Agarwal has not released any statement due to his health concerns. However, School of Business Dean Dr. Anthony Wilbon expressed his deepest condolences for Samura’s passing and offered full support to those affected by the tragedy.
After the accident and Samura’s death, meetings were held with Samura’s business orientation team and close friends, as well as School of Business faculty and staff. Wilbon encouraged everyone impacted to seek professional help in their time of grief. Agarwal, who specializes in information systems, network and internet security, has been teaching at Howard University for 23 years. The Howard University Office of Communications has not provided any information on whether Agarwal will return to teaching after his recovery or if there will be changes to traffic signage near Cook Hall.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is currently investigating the fatal crash that claimed Samura’s life. A lawyer representing Samura’s family confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing.
