UNDP leads the way with innovative training programs for a skilled workforce and sustainable green economy.

Green Jobs and Sustainable Development: Libya’s New Training Programs

The Libyan Korean Centre has teamed up with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and local stakeholders to develop five training programs aimed at building a skilled workforce in support of a sustainable, greener economy in Libya. The programs focus on energy assessment and innovative building, recycling skills, municipal waste management, environmental health and safety, and circular economy entrepreneurship.

The initiative was announced on April 15 as part of UNDP’s Local Peacebuilding and Resilience efforts to support job creation for youth. It is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Labour and Rehabilitation, with support from the Republic of Korea.

The training programs are designed to provide young people with the skills they need to succeed in the growing green economy. By developing a skilled workforce, Libya can create more jobs and reduce its dependence on oil revenue.

The first training program focuses on energy assessment and innovative building techniques. This program will teach participants how to assess energy usage in buildings and develop innovative solutions for reducing energy consumption. The second program focuses on recycling skills, teaching participants how to manage waste effectively and turn it into valuable resources.

The third program focuses on municipal waste management, teaching participants how to manage waste efficiently and safely. The fourth program focuses on environmental health and safety, teaching participants how to protect public health by implementing safe environmental practices. Finally, the fifth program focuses on circular economy entrepreneurship, teaching participants how to start their own businesses that are environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Overall, these training programs have the potential to create a more sustainable future for Libya by building a skilled workforce that can contribute to the growing green economy while protecting public health and promoting environmental sustainability.
