Georgia women’s tennis team easily advances through first round of NCAA Tournament

Georgia’s Swift Victory over Alabama State: Seventh Straight Sweep in Eight Matches

The No. 7 Georgia team made quick work of Alabama State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, winning 4-0 on its home courts after a morning rain delay. The victory marked Georgia’s seventh sweep in the past eight matches.

Georgia’s momentum was evident as they secured the doubles point with wins on all three courts. Anastasiia Lopata and Mell Reasco, who had already won nine matches together, clinched victory with a quick 6-1 win on court three. Dasha Vidmanova and Aysegul Mert also sealed a 6-0 win on court one to ensure Georgia’s dominance in doubles play.

With confidence high, Georgia entered singles play and quickly took control, winning all six matches in the first set. Guillermina Grant easily defeated Bea Francesca Acena 6-0, 6-0 to give Georgia a commanding 2-0 lead. Reasco and Lopata continued to dominate, securing victories to clinch the win for Georgia. Reasco defeated Madalena Andrade 6-1, 6-1 while Lopata defeated Carmelle Vial 6-0, 6-1 to leave Alabama State struggling to keep up.

Head coach Drake Bernstein expressed his team’s confidence in their preparation for the upcoming matchup against Florida State at home. Despite knowing it will be a tough battle as usual, Bernstein believes his team has what it takes to emerge victorious once again. The team has been consistent with their routine of recovery, rest and readiness leading up to their next challenge.”
