From Amateur to Pro: 16-Year-Old Kris Kim Makes History on PGA Tour
In a stunning debut on the PGA Tour, 16-year-old amateur golfer Kris Kim made history by becoming the youngest player to make the cut in nine years. The young golfer also set a new record as the youngest player to make the cut at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, surpassing a record previously held by Jordan Spieth in 2010.
Kim’s impressive performance began with a three-under-68 first round and a four-under-67 second round at the tournament in McKinney, Texas. Despite feeling nervous on the 18th hole, Kim managed to sink a birdie putt and secure his spot in the next round. His mother, Ji-Hyun Suh, a former professional golfer, introduced him to the sport at a young age and has been instrumental in his success.
Kim has had an incredible amateur career, winning various championships in the past year before making his debut on the PGA Tour. Currently tied for 36th place, he is trailing the overnight leader, Jake Knapp. Other notable players in the tournament include Matt Wallace and Troy Merritt, who are tied for second place. Unfortunately, Jordan Spieth failed to make the cut due to a wrist injury.
As Kim prepares for his third round on Saturday morning, he knows that he still has work to do if he wants to contend for victory at this prestigious event.
