Former President Trump’s Plea for Gag Order Rejected in Stormy Daniels Affair Trial
A federal judge in New York denied a request from former President Donald Trump on Tuesday to halt the criminal trial in the state. Trump is accused of falsifying business records to make a cash payment to former porn star Stormy Daniels in exchange for her silence regarding an alleged affair in 2006.
During the trial, lawyer Keith Davidson, who worked for both Daniels and Karen McDougal, another woman who claims to have had an affair with Trump in 2006, testified as a witness. He was questioned about negotiations that led to an agreement for Trump’s lawyer at the time, Michael Cohen, to make a cash payment to Daniels.
Davidson mentioned that there was a close affiliation between Trump and the former editor of the National Enquirer, David Pecker. He also testified that the tabloid’s parent company bought McDougal’s story to prevent it from being publicized during the 2016 presidential campaign.
The trial resumed on Thursday, with Trump being fined $9,000 for violating a gag order imposed by the judge. Trump argued that the gag order violated his constitutional rights as he left the courtroom.
The case continues to unfold in New York, with more testimony and evidence expected to be presented.
