Feasting on French Flavors: Suresnes Sets New Record for World’s Longest Baguette

In Paris, France, a new Guinness World Record was set on Sunday by a team of 18 bakers from Suresnes. The team surpassed the previous record by more than 10 meters with their 143.53-meter-long (461-foot-long) baguette. The event took place during an event organized by the French Confederation of Bakers and Pastry Chefs and was overseen by a Guinness World Records judge.

The president of the Confederation, Dominique Anract, emphasized the importance of sportsmanship and spirit required to achieve such a feat. He also highlighted the cultural significance of bread as an integral part of French gastronomic heritage. According to Guinness rules, the baguette must be at least 5 centimeters thick throughout, with a standard length of approximately 60 centimeters and weighing around 250 grams. It must only be made from wheat flour, water, salt, and yeast.

The bakers began kneading the 152-kilogram (335-pound) baguette at 3 am in a specially constructed wheeled tent oven. The achievement was celebrated by Suresnes Mayor Guillaume Boudy who expressed pride in hosting the record for the longest baguette in the world and promoting French gastronomy as a national symbol. He commended the bakers for maintaining tradition and conviviality in Suresnes through their participation in this event.

After confirmation from Guinness officials, part of the baguette was distributed to interested onlookers while the rest was given to homeless people. This achievement not only showcased the baking prowess of the team but also highlighted its cultural significance as one of France’s most iconic dishes.
