Facua calls for Consumer Protection to penalize Mercadona for “deceptive advertising” of certain oat tortillas

False Claims and Unfair Competition: Mercadona Faces Disciplinary Action for Deceptive Advertising

Mercadona has been accused of deceptive advertising by Facua-Consumers in Action for their product called Farmer 51% Oatmeal Tortillas. The association has verified the composition of the product and found that it contains only around 21% oat flour, not the 51% as advertised.

According to Facua, Mercadona is misleading consumers with the name of the product, which can create an incorrect image of its real composition. They believe that labeling and presentation of goods must not mislead consumers, as stated in legislation related to consumer protection.

The organization has demanded that Mercadona changes the name of the product until its composition meets the advertising claims made about it. They have also requested that the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption, and Agenda 2030 open a disciplinary file against Mercadona for misleading advertising and unfair competition.

Facua accuses Mercadona of engaging in unethical practices by creating false images about their products to attract customers. They urge consumers to be cautious when buying products and check their labels carefully before making a purchase decision.
