Expert Panel Discusses Urgent Need for SRHR as a Cornerstone of Health and Sustainable Development

The International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of Action has left an unfinished agenda when it comes to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). An upcoming side event is set to address this issue by reinvigorating and recalibrating the need for SRHR as a core component of health and sustainable development.

The event will feature speakers such as Atul Gawande, Assistant Administrator for Global Health at USAID; Yolanda Varela, General Director of the National Center for Gender Equity and Reproductive Health in Mexico; Chris Carter, Deputy Director of the Human Development Department at Global Health FCDO; Bunyarit Sukrat, Director of the Bureau of Reproductive Health at the Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health in Thailand; and Pascale Allotey, Director of HRP at the WHO. These experts will share their experiences, evidence, and actions to push forward the SRHR agenda.

A moderated discussion with Monserrath López from WOSM in Guatemala, Levi Singh from SRHR Africa Trust in South Africa, and Hon. Apsana Begum, a Labour MP from the United Kingdom will also take place. These experts and advocates will explore inclusive solutions to the challenges facing sexual and reproductive health and rights worldwide.
