Apple should allow parallel downloads and enable deletion of pre-installed apps on iPadOS in the European Union.

European Commission Designates iPadOS as Access Gatekeeper, Promoting Fair Competition in the Digital Markets Law

The European Commission has designated iPadOS as an “access gatekeeper” under the Digital Markets Law, aiming to ensure fair competition in the market. This follows an investigation that began in September and determined that iPadOS serves as a crucial gateway for professional users to reach end-users. As a result, Apple has been given six months to adapt iPadOS to comply with the strict requirements of the law.

One of the changes that will be implemented is making it easier for users to remove pre-installed apps on iPad devices. Additionally, support for downloading and installing apps from sources outside of the App Store will be added. These changes will give users greater control over their devices and the applications they use.

The shift towards greater openness and competition in the market is a positive step for consumers and professional users alike. It will be interesting to see how these changes impact the Apple ecosystem and overall user experience on iPad devices.
