Eugene-Area High School Athletes Excel in Spring Sports: Athlete of the Week Nominations

Eugene-area athletes continue to excel as the high school spring sports season nears its end. This week’s Register-Guard Athlete of the Week nominees include Reagan Kumle from Springfield softball, McKenzie Larsen from Churchill girls tennis, Trison Hedges from Thurston boys golf, Aiden Hibler from North Eugene baseball, Anthony Angelastro from Marist boys golf, Francesca Tomp from North Eugene girls golf, and Camille Gamble from Thurston girls golf. Cast your vote for the athlete you believe is most deserving in the poll provided, closing at noon on Thursday.

Senior Reagan Kumle of Springfield softball had a standout performance this week. She hit a double and scored a run in a 10-3 victory over Ashland. Meanwhile, Churchill junior McKenzie Larsen secured two wins at No. 1 singles in girls tennis, defeating opponents from North Eugene and Willamette. Thurston senior Trison Hedges finished second at the boys 5A Midwestern League District Championships in golf with a two-day score of 162. North Eugene’s freshman baseball player Aiden Hibler contributed significantly to his team’s series win over Crater with four hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored.

In boys golf, Marist senior Anthony Angelastro placed third at the Shadow Hills Marshfield Invitational with a score of 81, helping his team secure the overall title. North Eugene junior Francesca Tomp clinched victory at the girls 5A Midwestern League District Championships in golf with a two-day score of 152. Thurston sophomore Camille Gamble achieved an impressive feat by hitting a hole-in-one at the girls 5A Midwestern League District Championships and registering a two-day score of 215. Springfield Softball: Senior Reagan Kumle had an outstanding performance this week against Ashland High School Millers with four hits and five RBIs resulting in their victory with a final score of 10 -3.

Churchill Girls Tennis: Junior McKenzie Larsen secured her place as one of this week’s nominees after winning twice at No.1 singles against opponents from North Eugene and Willamette High School.

Thurston Boys Golf: Senior Trison Hedges finished in second place at the boys 5A Midwestern League District Championships shooting a two day score of 162.

North Eugene Baseball: Freshman Aiden Hibler contributed significantly to his team’s series win over Crater High School with four hits, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Marist Boys Golf: Senior Anthony Angelastro placed third at Shadow Hills Marshfield Invitational scoring an impressive total of 81 which helped his team secure overall title.

North Eugene Girls Golf: Junior Francesca Tomp clinched victory for her team by scoring an amazing total of 152 during district championships held within Midwestern League district.

Thurston Girls Golf: Sophomore Camille Gamble achieved something remarkable when she hit a hole-in-one during district championships scoring an incredible total of 215
