EU Agriculture Ministers Meet to Address Challenges: Finnish Minister Calls for Sustainable Bioeconomy and Regulatory Simplification
The Finnish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Sari Essayah, attended a meeting of agriculture ministers from the European Union member states to address the challenges faced by the agricultural sector. The EU Commission has announced a relief package in response to widespread protests across Europe this spring, which aims to simplify regulations related to the common agricultural policy and enhance transparency in the food chain.
The For Forest group, chaired by Finland and comprising of 16 member countries, advocates for the recognition of sustainable bioeconomy and the importance of forests in shaping the future work program of the EU Commission. Essayah expressed support for regulatory simplification measures proposed by the Commission and emphasized the need for stronger measures to improve producers’ position in the food chain. New regulations are expected to be released by the Commission in summer.
