Local nonprofit expands mental health outreach for Tulsa’s Black communities

Empowering Black Communities: Tulsa Black Mental Health Alliance Provides Critical Services and Resources for Mental Health Needs

The Tulsa Black Mental Health Alliance (TBMHA) is a local nonprofit organization that aims to provide mental health services and resources to the black community in Tulsa. Founded by Licensed Professional Counselor Kimberly Whayne, the group is focused on reducing stigmas surrounding mental health and creating a supportive environment for people of color who are facing mental health challenges.

One of the key areas of focus for TBMHA is providing professional counseling services to individuals who understand the unique experiences of the black community. Whayne emphasizes the importance of effective tools to work through trauma, crisis, and generational traumas that are specific to African Americans and black and brown individuals.

In addition to counseling services, TBMHA is also committed to educating the community about mental health and offering tips, resources, and connections to community organizations with professionals who share similar experiences. The organization was established by the Terence Crutcher Foundation and collaborates with agencies like Overcross Counseling and Caring Hearts Professional Counseling Services in North Tulsa.

For those interested in partnering with TBMHA, they can reach out to the organization for more information on how to get involved.
