Detroit Residents Invited to Participate in Public Health Week: Free Screenings and Activities for All

In Detroit, residents can take advantage of free health screenings and activities during Public Health Week from April 1 to April 6. Hosted by the Detroit Health Department, the event is open to everyone and does not require appointments, IDs, or health insurance to participate. The department is collaborating with community partners such as police precincts, recreation centers, and other organizations to facilitate the screenings and activities.

The theme for this year’s Public Health Week is “Centering and Celebrating Culture in Health.” Residents can choose from a variety of free screenings and activities that promote a healthy lifestyle, including blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and kidney function checks, HIV and syphilis testing, fitness classes, CPR training, Narcan training and kit distribution, mental health makeovers, lead screenings, and a men’s panel discussion called “Cuts and Conversations.”

Events will be held at various locations throughout the week at different dates and times. The schedule runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday, and 12 p.m
