Chicago Bears Keep Stadium Dreams in the City with New Plan
The Bears have expressed their desire to stay in Chicago rather than relocate to the suburbs, according to their latest plan set to be revealed on Wednesday. This new plan includes building a domed stadium along Chicago’s lakefront. The team released a statement today indicating that city officials are in agreement and will be part of the announcement on Wednesday.
In addition to the stadium, the new plan also includes additional green and open space with access to the lakefront for families and fans. The proposed site is the Museum Campus. Previously, the Bears had purchased land in Arlington Heights with intentions of building a stadium there, but they changed course when they were informed that property taxes on the Arlington Heights land would be much higher than anticipated. It remains uncertain what tax breaks and taxpayer financing the Bears are hoping for with their proposed stadium in the city as this topic will be a crucial question for the team as they work towards finalizing their stadium project.
