Men’s golf and women’s water polo secure 2nd place in Pac-12 rankings

Cal Sports Teams Elevate Expectations: Second-Place Finishes, NCAA Bids, and Historic Triumphs

The weekend was filled with excitement for the Cal sports teams, as they each had noteworthy performances in their respective competitions. The men’s golf team finished second at the Pac-12 championships held in Arizona, with Ethan Fang, Sampson Zheng, and Eric Lee placing among the top-13 individual players. This marked a significant improvement for the Bears since 2016 and increased their hopes of earning an NCAA regional bid in May.

On the other hand, the women’s water polo team achieved a remarkable feat by securing a runner-up position at the MPSF championships. After advancing to the title game for the first time since 2011, they lost to UCLA. However, standout players like Rozanne Voorvelt and Mary Dempsey made significant contributions to their goal-scoring efforts. The Bears will now host the NCAA Championships at Spieker Aquatics Complex for the first time.

In another impressive achievement, Cal beach volleyball earned a spot in the NCAA championships for the third consecutive year, securing a program-best No. 7 seed. They will face Long Beach State in the first round and aim to repeat their victory over them from last year’s tournament. With six Pac-12 teams in the NCAA field, competition promises to be intense, with top-seeded USC looking to claim a fourth consecutive national title.

Overall, it was an eventful weekend for Cal sports teams as they demonstrated exceptional talent and skill across different competitions.
