Broncos Reunite with Former Oregon Teammate Troy Franklin in 2024 NFL Draft, Adding Versatile Value to Already Impressive Receiving Group
In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos made a move to draft former Oregon wide receiver Troy Franklin in the fourth round. This selection was a result of trading up and reunites Franklin with his former Oregon teammate, quarterback Bo Nix.
Franklin’s versatility makes him a valuable secondary option for top receivers or potent deep threat for an aerial attack that needs improvement. He joins a receiving group that already includes Courtland Sutton, who has been with the Broncos since 2018. In 2023, Sutton had an impressive season with 90 catches, 772 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 13.1 yards per catch.
During his time at Oregon catching passes from Nix, Franklin set records by becoming the all-time leader in receiving touchdowns with 25 and tying for the most 100-yard receiving games with 11. The Broncos also added veteran receiver Josh Reynolds in the offseason, who had a solid season with the Detroit Lions in 2023, recording 40 passes for 608 yards and five touchdowns.
The Broncos also have a healthy Tim Patrick, who missed the past two seasons due to injury, as well as Brandon Johnson and Lil’Jordan Humphrey, who contributed over 150 yards each last season. When Nix received the draft call from Broncos Coach Sean Payton, he exclaimed “You want to win a Super Bowl?” Now, his favorite target ever is joining him on this journey to make it an NFL Draft dream come true for both of them.
