YouTuber Achieves Guinness World Record for Largest Model Aircraft Carrier

British YouTuber James Whomsley Sets World Records with Remote-Controlled Aircraft Carrier Model

James Whomsley, a renowned British YouTuber with an engineering channel, has recently set two world records. Firstly, he constructed the largest remote-controlled aircraft carrier model in the world, which was confirmed by Guinness World Records. Secondly, he successfully landed two remote control model planes on the carrier, earning himself another world record.

The construction of this massive aircraft carrier model took Whomsley three months to complete. To ensure its durability and functionality, expanding foam was used to make the carrier waterproof. After completing the carrier, Whomsley had to learn how to operate the remote-controlled planes and make modifications to both the planes and the carrier to successfully land them.

Whomsley described his experience of bringing his idea to life as “amazing”. In order to facilitate the landings, he added first-person view cameras to the model aircraft for better visibility. The model planes used in the project were modified ready-to-fly models. Testing flights and landings were carried out at Rudyard Lake in Staffordshire. Unfortunately, one of the planes crashed into the water during testing.

A YouTube video documenting the project showcases Whomsley’s numerous attempts to land the planes on the carrier, as well as highlights from the building process. This is not Whomsley’s first time making history with his engineering projects; previously he set a Guinness World Record for the fastest remote-controlled jet-powered car. The car, equipped with a JetCat 220 engine and an aluminum chassis, reached speeds of up to 94.76 mph before being destroyed after hitting 141 mph on a third run.
