Broncos and CHSAA collaborate to recognize girls flag football as official high school sport in Colorado

Breaking Barriers: Denver Broncos Foundation’s Girls Flag Football Program Takes Flight

In 2023, the Denver Broncos Foundation, in collaboration with the Broncos and CHSAA, launched Colorado’s girls flag football pilot program. The Foundation funded the inaugural seasons from 2022-23, involving 50 schools, 10 school districts, and nearly 1,500 girls who participated in around 850 games.

The program experienced significant growth in 2023, with a 161 percent increase in participants (1,316) and a 310 percent increase in the number of games played (680). CHSAA Commissioner Mike Krueger expressed his excitement over the program’s success, emphasizing the values of empowerment, teamwork, and breaking barriers that it promotes.

With the sport now officially sanctioned by CHSAA, the Denver Broncos Foundation will continue its support through seasonal programming, coaching clinics, recognition for athletes and coaches, and initiatives promoting youth health and wellness. The foundation aims to nurture leadership, confidence, and equality both on and off the field.

Broncos leadership and players have been actively involved in these events since its launch. They host championship tournaments and round-robin exhibition events at Centura Health Training Center every year to showcase their support for the program. This involvement not only demonstrates their commitment to promoting youth sports but also encourages young female athletes to pursue their dreams while learning important life skills such as teamwork and perseverance.
