In the dystopian world of Boy Kills World, televised bloodsports reign supreme and dictate society’s social order. While the citizens are entertained by these savage competitions, a select few are chosen for sacrificial purposes to maintain the control of a despotic family known as the van der Koys. The film’s rapid world-building in the first few minutes makes it challenging to keep up with the fast-paced narrative.
The protagonist, known as “Boy” and portrayed by Bill Skarsgård, has witnessed the tragic deaths of his mother and sister before escaping into the jungle. Now trained in martial arts by a shaman, he is ready to seek revenge against those who have wronged him. With its unique color palette and frenetic style, Boy Kills World may remind viewers of films like Kill Bill and Oldboy, among others. However, it stands out with its quirky and bizarre tone that sets it apart from other action-packed films.
Director Moritz Mohr, with Sam Raimi’s support, delivers an exhilarating and overwhelming viewing experience with its excessive nature. Despite its relentless energy and absurdity, Boy Kills World is an entertaining and unique film that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
