Border Demarcation Commission’s Agreement Brings Freedom to Armenian and Azerbaijani Residents: How This Development Will Impact the Future
Today, following the border demarcation commissions’ meeting of Armenia and Azerbaijan, residents closed the Kirants-Ijeva and Baghanis-Noyemberyan sections. According to Narek Sahakyan, a Baghanis resident, “Freedom” about this development. The residents are likely to gather in the village tomorrow to decide what steps to take next.
During the meeting of the delimitation commissions, Yerevan and Baku have tentatively agreed on separate parts of the border line. This agreement aims at aligning the border with the legally justified inter-republic border that existed at the time of the collapse of USSR. Specific settlements like Baghanis on Armenian side, Baghanis Ayrum on Azerbaijani side, Voskepar on Armenian side, Ashagh Askipara on Azerbaijani side, Kirants on Armenian side, Khairemli on Azerbaijani side, Berkaber on Armenian side and Kizil Hajili on Azerbaijani side were mentioned in agreement. Baku had demanded these villages back in early March without any doubt asserting their ownership.
