Birdwatching Bonanza: A Unique Event to Experience the Thriving Avian Population at Troy Wetlands
On May 18th, the Geauga Park District is hosting a “bird sit” event in honor of World Migratory Bird Day. This unique event invites nature enthusiasts to sit in one spot and record all the birds they see and hear. The observation deck at Troy Wetlands, the newest park in the district, is the perfect location for this activity.
Troy Wetlands provides an ideal habitat for a wide range of birds due to its unique combination of wetlands and forest. Its boardwalks and viewing platform offer excellent vantage points for bird watching. Interested participants, both school-aged and older, should dress appropriately for the weather, bring a chair, binoculars, camera, and other essentials for comfort. No registration is necessary for this event.
Located at 18725 Claridon-Troy Road in Troy Township, Troy Wetlands has already surpassed LaDue Reservoir’s bird species sightings with 123 species as of April 30th. Naturalist Linda Gilbert will be on hand to help tally spring bird life during the event.
Before attending, it is recommended to check the park district’s website for any updates regarding inclement weather that may lead to event cancellation. Signage will be posted along the route to the observation deck for easy navigation. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the rich birdlife at Troy Wetlands and contribute to the bird sit event on World Migratory Bird Day!
