On Wednesday, President Joe Biden signed into law a measure approved by the Senate the previous day. This bill provides military aid to several countries, including Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific region, including Taiwan. In addition to the aid package, which includes $60 billion for Ukraine and $26.4 billion for Israel, the legislation requires Chinese tech giant ByteDance to sell the social media app TikTok within a year in order to avoid a ban in the country.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed that the first weapons package worth $1 billion had been shipped, consisting of air defense missiles, armored vehicles, and anti-tank weapons. In response to the ultimatum to sell TikTok, China reiterated its previous stance and accused the US of using intimidation tactics.
TikTok’s CEO Shou Zi Chew released a statement in a video saying that the company would appeal the US government’s decision and was confident of a positive outcome.
